Customised Label on Drilldown Dimension

I'm trying to create custom labels for drilldown menus and honestly I don't know where to start.

I've got dimension Channel, which progressively sorts through an organisational hierarchy. It's working fine, but if it's used I am not able to change the name which is causing problems in several areas

If someone could guide me through the process that would be amazing.

I believe that it is not possible to change the title of the added fields in Drill-down option. I was trying to find a workaround, however I was unable to find a way to do so. Checking the "Creating a drill-down dimension" [1] documentation we can see that even the example shows the preview as:

Where you can see that the fields appear as:

  • Date.autoCalendar.Year
  • Date.autoCalendar.Month
  • etc.

Which is also not very optimal for the presentation of the chart. However, it is working as designed and the only option is to create a feature request [2]. I hope that this information was helpful.

Hello @stevejoyce ,

This is an interesting suggestion. Can you please confirm if you were able to achieve this on your side? I have tried this during my reproduction attempt but I was unable to set it up. I have created master item dimensions with title such as "Test Year", "Test Month" etc., however when I was trying to create the Drill-down later, those master item dimensions were not visible in the list of available dimensions to use.

Maybe I am using an outdated version of Qlik Sense that doesn't yet have this capability, or maybe I have followed the wrong steps. Can you please confirm if this has worked for you and share the steps that you have followed? It will help other community members to have this information posted!

Thank you in advance

Please see this video on how to accomplish this:

Create a single master dim with a dynamic label (based on your drill down getselectedcount).  Then change it to a drill down where you can add the rest of your dimensions.

@GrantBooth .  Curious if you tried the video that I sent and if that worked.  If not, can you please what you did some others can use :).

The drilldown heirarchy I'm working with is a little odd, so in the end I just created labels for each of the measures in the drilldown without worrying too much about dynamic names.

Hi,

I've also found it difficult to get labels working properly based on alternate dimensions (it's doable on drill downs, as described above) so I tend not to use them, opting for a Filter Pane to select the dimension. This also has the advantage that a single filter pane can change the dimension on a number of charts.

This blog post describes the way to achieve this:
https://www.quickintelligence.co.uk/qlik-sense-cycle-group/

That approach is then taken to the max with this fully user configurable app:

Enjoy!
