Date Picker update a variable and then use the variable in set analysis

Hello,

Can the Date Picker update a variable in Qlik Sense?

I have a requirement to allow the users to enter a start and end date and then filter.  If I use the Date Picker with a field the problem is the dates the picker displays is reduced by my selection.

I would like to have the Date Picker set a variable and then use this variable with set analysis to control my filter.

Had anyone used this approach?  I used it years back in QlikView and it worked.
