Expressions as Variables vs Measures

Hi

I am very new to Qlik Sense and I do not have anyone in my organisation to help me.

I wanted to know what the difference is between writing expressions and saving them as a 'Measure' ,

or saving them as a 'Variable'

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Some may have different opinions regarding the benefits however technically speaking, they work the same.
Master items have additional properties that could be useful too (dynamic label, number formatting, colors...).

You can use your variables also in the master items measures (useful to externalise the code).
Personally I'm not a big fan of master items as it requires more manipulations, specially when you try to debug.
However, since few QS versions, you have the ability to reference them in other measures, and this is really a big step forward.
For me, if your QS dashboards are not going to be manipulated by final users (with professional licenses), this is not a game changer to use master items. However, if you are going to let people do self BI and build their own visualizations, this is a good way to add a kind of business layer and to remove a bit of complexity.

Hi Vincent

Thank you for your response!

So am I right in saying that in the most basic sense, they both work the same if I was to use them in a visualisation?

The main difference comes later down the line if you want to have them as dynamic and available for manipulation by the end user?
