What is the easiest and most efficient way to migrate a server?

I am new to qlik sense and i need to be migrating an old server into a new one, i've searched the community for the steps and i found some very useful guides on how to backup and restore the server elsewhere. Now my question is wouldn't be possible to just install a new fresh instance of qlik sense on the new server and copy paste the apps and shared folder instead of performing the backup through sql and restore tasks? also if i do the copy paste method does it matter which version i am copying from and to?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The server has a lot of configurations that go way beyond the apps. Security rules, reload tasks, content libraries and much more. If you start fresh, you will have to manually recreate all of those.

If you plan on having a newer version of QS on the new server, I suggest a two-step approach. First upgrade Qlik Sense in the old server, check if everything is ok, and then migrate to the new server. This is because sometimes apps may have issues when upgrading to newer Qlik Sense versions. If you do the server migration and version upgrade at once, it may be harder to identify the root cause of an issue.
