is it possible to filter a filter?

We are trying to limit display data in a column, it contains alpha, ~,   numbers we only want to see the alpha.
Or is there a way to stop it at the data load editor?
  We are doing a direct link to our database.

Using Direct Discovery you mean or are you pulling data in memory through SQL?

we linked up directly to the data base.

I use Microsoft excel and thru that I use SQL  can I use the SQL I create in Excel and connect?  That would filter for me.

Can you share the script you are using? I am having difficulty in understanding what you have right now.

On a similar note, you can restrict data from SQL either by restricting data directly in the SQL SELECT statement or you can do it in the preceding load statement. Read about preceding load here: Preceding Load
