Can I run new QlikSense Desktop (June 18) using data model from old server version (3.0 SR2)?

Hello,

We are on QlikSense Enterprise v3.0 SR2, and I wondered if I could use authentication from the Console to use QS Desktop June 2018 with the enterprise data model.  Not for publishing, but just to use the model to "test drive" the new desktop release.

‌Yes and No...

Yes...

You can use the current desktop version if you download the QVF, Extensions, and any other required assets to your local desktop. You will not be “authenticating” to the Qlik Sense server, but will be using the trial version using your QlikID. This is a great way to test the new release but it will only work until the next version is released.

If you want to authenticate the desktop software to the Qlik Sense server, then your server needs to be upgraded to at least 3.2 as that was when that feature was released. This will prevent you from having to upgrade and you will use your local credentials instead of your QlikID  See...

I hope that helps.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the insight.  I was hoping there was just a way to access the data model.  Pretty new to Qlik, and working with the Enterprise Console is a little out of my depth .

I appreciate your help!  Take care.

Hi Scott,

Certainly you can, as long as your workstation-user satisfy these items:

  1. It has access to the network folders containing your QVDs and Qlik Application dependencies.
  2. If your site does not use network drives get them defined. Some permissions should be granted to your network account.
  3. Once you import the QVF file into your local workstation, update all its connections, keep the connection names, these new connections resolve to network drives.

It should work.
