Why does Replicate perform 'create directory' and 'drop directory' when using Oracle source endpoint?
As mentioned in the Replicate Users Guide, when using Replicate Log Reader to access the Redo logs, if you want Replicate to create and manage the Oracle directories, you need to grant the CREATE ANY DIRECTORY privilege to the user specified in the Oracle endpoint settings.
When the task that uses the Oracle source endpoint starts, as part of the actions to test connection and check the privileges, Replicate performs ‘create directory’ and ‘drop directory’.
Note:
- If you do not grant this privilege, you need to create the corresponding directories manually. For further details please refer to the following link to the Replicate Users Guide (Adding and managing source endpoints --> Using Oracle as a source --> Required permissions --> Access privileges when using Replicate Log Reader to access the redo logs : https://help.qlik.com/en-US/replicate/November2020/Content/Replicate/Main/Oracle/OracleDBSource_Secu...)
- If the Oracle redo logs are on ASM the CREATE ANY DIRECTORY privilege is not required.
