Acces to FireBird DB from Qlik SaaS based on Gateway

Dear Community,

We are in the process of migrating from an on-premise setup to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. Currently, we utilize the Qlik gateway to access our data, and it functions seamlessly with most of our data sources. However, we have encountered a challenge with our "FireBird DB" data source.

Previously, we were able to establish a connection to FireBird DB through an ODBC connection, as there was no direct connector available for this type of database. However, in the gateway connectors, I cannot find the option for ODBC. This poses an issue as we now require access from the cloud to the FireBird DB.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how to address this matter effectively.

Thank you,

Hi @arnbank

Currently, you can connect to a generic ODBC database including Firebird to Qlik Cloud via Qlik data transfer.

Qlik data transfer: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/cloud-services/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/QlikDataTransfer/install...

Generic ODBC will be made available via Data gateway in the coming days (No ETA on the delivery) but it's on the roadmap for sure.

Qlik Data Transfer requires Qlik Engine, which means that with this workaround, we need to have Qlik on-premise and in the Qlik Cloud. However, we can maintain a minimum version of the on-premise solution, which would require at least 5 professional licenses (Based on Qlik rules). This is not a small number of licenses, especially considering it's only for connecting to ODBC.

Hi @aenbank,

Both Data Gateway and Data transfer tools are on-prem. It would not consume any additional license to install or use these products along with Qlik Cloud.

I do not believe that FireBird is not on the roadmap and will not be available as a direct connector in Qlik Cloud soon. Please feel free to connect with our sales team or account manager to discuss about this further. They would be able to provide better assistance with migration to Qlik Cloud.

5 Prof licenses is not an official Qlik rule.  The license metrics state at least 1 Professional license and I don't see any rule on the price list.

Qlik DataTransfer is a good answer as per @Vinay_B

Trouble with this is that Qlik DataTransfer requires to connect to the tenant via an API key and the owner of that API key must have a Professional User license.  So ensure you set it up via a user who will keep their Professional User license.

Getting the data out of Firebird, into a QVD or CSV to transport to the tenant is the tricky bit. Best of luck.
