Question regarding cluster upgrade and Shared Disk resource

Hi,

I was reading this article as I am currently helping a client out with upgrading QR on their cluster: https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/Qlik-Replicate-upgrade-on-a-Windows-Cluster-...

I noticed in step 10 that it says "Move the Cluster service (this is the role that manages your share drive/Qlik service/and client access point) to another node. This is going to move the shared drive and service to the other node (Node B)"

This is confusing as we were able to do the QR upgrade on the cluster without moving the shared disk between the nodes.

My questions are:

1. Does the Shared Disk resource need to be associated with the same Role that contains the QR Services and the Client Access Point resource? In our case, the Shared Disk had its own separate Role. It was not all in one Role.

2. Is it necessary to move the Shared Disk role to the node that is being upgraded? As I said, we managed to do it in the test environment without moving it. I am checking as we will be doing production soon and I'd rather get the steps right.

3. If it is necessary to move the shared disk to the node that is being updated, then does it matter that the Shared Disk is in a separate Role? or can we just move each Role individually? Also, is there a specific order in which each Resource should be started? My assumption is that the Shared Disk resource should be moved first, then the Replicate Role.

Help with this is appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

Mohammed

Hi Mohammed,

When upgrading QR service on windows clustomer, the main point that needs to be kept in mind is that in order to be able to witch from node to node smoothly, every node should run the same Replicate version. Therefore, when you upgrade QR running on cluster you have to upgade every node separately, following the instruction listed in the mentioned community article.

As the share disk includes the Replicate data directory, when you move to other node it is important to move it to the new node you are working with.

Regards,

Orit
