Why do I have no deletes and no beforeimages in my __ct tables?

I have a single task with many tables being pulled from the log files into BigQuery.  There are some tables in which their are updates but no beforeimage rows.  There are also no deletes in these rows, although I'm not 100% positive that there should be deletes.  I actually think there should be deletes, but I'm not positive.   But since there are updates there should be beforeimage rows, no?

FWIW, the task is set to on update save beforeimage and update rows.  And it is doing that for some other tables.  Beforeimage and deletes.

We are talking about a Replicate task right? Replicate version shouldn't matter much, but just in case?

More important than the target (BigQuery) is the source, to find out whether it provides before images.

You mention 'from the logfiles' - but which DB, and just in case - which version?

Before Images typically require 'supplemental logging' (Oracle term) or similar for other DB's to be active. Replicate typically verifies this on startup. Was it there (check task log)? Is it still there and active?

For best help you may want to attached (redacted for confidential info) task JSON export (with endpoints) and/or a (redacted to remove large repetitive chunks and sensitive info) reptask log file.
