Allow dynamic assignment - Document CAL

Hello everyone,

I was wondering what happens if I check "Allow dynamic CAL assignment"  for one document ?  This would be for document CAL.

I don't have publisher.

For example, in an application,  I currently have 11 people having a document CAL.  Is there a way to use only, let's say, 8 doc CALS, for my 11 users ?

I have tried to check the box and to put a lower number of CALs allocated to this document but it doesn't work...

thanks for your answers

Hi,

As you don't have publisher you need to control access via QlikView File.

Go to the folder where your QlikView Application is Placed.

Right Click on QlikView File --> Go to properties --> Security tab --> Click on Edit --> Remove every one and add user that you want to give access to this application.

Only these users will see QlikView application in Access point.

hope it helps

it should work in the below scenario:

suppose you have a new dashboard and you expect 10 users to access this dashboard, you will assign only 7 and check the allow dynamic allocation without manually adding any user.

whenever a user access this dashboard he will take one CAL automatically and will appear as if you have manually assigned this user, now when the number of CALs reach 7 and a new user try to access the document he will not be able to do so.

what we are doing is that we are manually deleting old users from the documents to minimize the number of assigned CALs dynamically so that other users can still access.

Hi,

In your case where you have 11 users you need 11 document cal.

As document Cal works with !:1 ratio, One user can have access to one document consuming 1 document cal.

In this list of 11 users if you have few users with named cal, then the idea can work, therefore they will not be allocated any document cal as they already have named cal.

Note:

If you check "Allow dynamic CAL assignment",

Then it will be served on first come first serve basis. Any one of 11 can have access to that cal based on priority i.e first come first server.

Ok, so this means that if I don't manually add the users who can access the document, everyone would be able to access on the document ?

Hi,

I am not sure I have understood.

In my case, I only have document CALs. So can I use the allow dynamic CAL assignment ?

If so, this means, I must not enter manually the name of the people who can access. And then, everyone can allow himself a CAL ?

this would mean I could do big "savings" of Doc CALs ! All I would need to do would be to sometimes delete the allocated CAL

True.

But you have to make sure that you have added user on QlikView Application.

By checking Allow dynamic Cal, A Document Cal will be allocated Automatically.

What do you mean by "added user on QlikView Application" ?

I assume a new dashboard is the same as a new document?

At present at work I allocate so many cals to a document and then allocate the names up to the number of cals. If someone is not using the document I then remove the name and reduce the number of total cals.

I'm unsure how dynamically would work. I have enough cals at work for everyone that requires them. But unsure if dynamically is better or not?
