Failed to open key 8009016 when QVD encryption enabled in Qlikview

 Hi Guys,

We are facing an issue which is 'Failed to open key 8009016' when we encrypted the QVD.

According to the help (https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/May2022/Subsystems/Server/Content/QV_Server/QlikView-Server/QVS...

We have already created the certificate and get the thumbprint, put the thumbprint into the setting.ini.

Reboot the server, but when we reload data (both from desktop and qmc). It said, 'Failed to open key 8009016'.

Hello,

Please confirm the following :

1. The steps for encrypting the QVD.

2. The certificate is viewable , in the MMC ,  while log onto the server as the service account running the Qlikview Distribution Service .

3. Settings.ini files have been updated for both server and desktop locations.

4. The certificate was created in the correct manner.

Instructions:

  1. Open the Certificate Manager tool (certmgr.msc).
  2. Locate the certificate.
  3. Right click the certificate and select Open.
  4. On the Details tab, select the Thumbprint field and copy the value.

  5. Locate the appropriate settings.ini file.

For QlikView Desktop, the settings.ini file can be found in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\QlikTech\QlikView.

For QlikView Server, the settings.ini file can be found in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\QlikTech\QlikViewBatch.

  6. In the settings.ini file, enable QVD encryption: enableEncryptQvd=1. Then paste the Thumbprint value into the encryptionKeyThumbprint field.

    Example:

    enableEncryptQvd=1 encryptionKeyThumbprint=563888bb6aea55eb0d33d9d8b909e0d2ef26ffbd
  7. Save the settings.ini file.
