Qlikview personal/desktop for Citrix clients

We have a licensed Qlikview version 11 on a windows server. My user account was added as licensed user.

I can open and work with qvw files with no problems when I use Qlikview in a rdp session on this server.

Now more licensed user accounts have to work with qlikview, so I installed qlikview desktop version on our citrix servers.

Everytime they open their qvw file they have to repair the file. When they logout and login, start qlikview again and open the same file then again they have to repaire the file (after 4 times this ends because it is no longer possible).

How should I configure the desktop version of qlickview so this will not happen anymore?

Every user needs its own license. The users can enter the license information on the License tab of the User Preferences window.

As I now understand the Desktop version will never work in a Clustered Citrix environment because the license lease is based upon username and machine id. This machine id will be different every time a user (who is registered in Qlikview server as a named user)  logs in (load balanced, so machine id will change all the time).

I suppose no one has a work around?

If you have Qlikview Server in your organisation with user cals then you can try using License Leasing instead.

I thought that I did just that. But when I look at the license history I see the username in combination with the machine id.

Do you mean that this is not the case in the actual license lease? So a user can login from any server (machine) as long as he/she is a named user and logs in with his/her own useraccount?

HI Ingrid,

Contact you account manager (local Sales Office) and talk with them about local desktop license.

Hi Bill,

And by using desktop licenses it is possible for users to use qlikview desktop in a load balanced terminal server environment (Citrix)?

If so, a bit expensive. We also bought pricy named user licenses we cannot use.

Hi,

I am not sure about that. I have never setup Qlik with Citrix. On the license issue, the account manager should be able to work with you on exchanging the licenses.

There is a solution for this: in Citrix you can restrict the number of load-balanced platforms on which an individual application is allowed to run. As long as you do not exceed two fixed platforms, your QV Desktop will be fine.

You'll still need a Named CAL for every individual user, however.
