Sometimes, it could be caused by plugin settings change in the server. Before clicking on the application choose a plugin to open with(Details->full browser version/ internet explorer plugin). Try both options.

you will find plugin info in below path
C:\Users\Your user\AppData\Local\Temp\QlikViewPlugin.wil
Open this file with notepad and search for ComponentVersion

I have checked on the mentioned path, Qlikview Plugin.wil is not coming there.
Only 2 Qlikview files I have found there:
1) Qlikview
2) QlikViewServer_Win2012andUp.wil
Hi nag open file 2 and and search for ComponentVersion, to get qlikview plugin version.
Is your QlikView server hosted on win2012?

We faced this problem in all our remote locations. It was solved by our helpdesk team just by adding an entry on the domain DNS server that associates the ip address to the server name. This solution was applied in each remote location and solved the problem immediately.
It was like the remote location was not able to recognize the server name to run the IE Plugin.
IPaddress Servername
Example:
xx.xx.xx.xx MyPRODServerName
