Attach script to object ?

Hello everyone. I'm new to Qlikview and I'm still learning my way around. I need to "attach" a script to an object so that when an item (any item) is selected or deselected from a list box a value is assigned to a variable. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, or if there is a better way to do it.
