Can't open recently created .qvw file. (Personal edition)

So yesterday I created a .qvw file on my PC and was using it to try to integrate Google Maps API to have geographic visualizations. Today when I tried to open the file, I get an error saying "The Personal Edition key file is missing or corrupt. Qlikview will recreate your personal edition key from the document you are about to open. Proceeding with this operation will use up one of your 2 remaining recovery attempts".

I also tried opening a different .qvw file that was working fine yesterday and I also get the same error. I'm very hesitant to use up my recovery attempt for this file, unless doing it once will fix all of my files. Are there any other solutions to this?

You have to lease license.

Why do I need a license when I'm just trying to use personal files that I created with my own machine? I was able to open them up before without a problem.

i also have this issue. I have a personal edition of QlikView and the dashboard i created yesterday i can no longer access. I recieve the message; "access denied: the file was created by a licensed qlikview user and since you are using qlikview personal edition you may not open this file". What gives? nothing has changed on my laptop and I created this file yesterday on this machine!!

I managed to fix this just out of interest.

the file i had been working on was saved in a different location to where i first started using QlikView.

In my case i worked on the tutorial first (C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikView Tutorial\English\Working with QlikView). I then closed this off and started to work on my own dashboard using my own data. This was saved in my documents. so I tried copying my new QVW file which was saved in my documents into the tutorial location and it worked fine.

cheers.

As David Boston mentions, try copying/moving the file to another location on your harddrive.

It worked for me. I had created a *.qvw file and it was originally placed on my desktop. After restarting QlikView I could not open the file, I received error message "Access denied: the file was created by a licensed qlikview user and since you are using qlikview personal edition you may not open this file.". So I moved the file to another location on my HDD and voila, I could open, save and reopen without a problem. Strange and annoying behaviour, but fixable.

Hope this works for you

Kind regards

Kim
