Comparative Analysis in QV10 manually

Hi Everyone,

I routinely need to create the ability for the end-user to compare 'states' based on selections - creating indexes etc...

Does anyone have a good way to do this in QV10 (i.e. prior to Qtech's new Comparative Analysis feature)?

Normally I have to replicate the dataset with the desired fields and then have separate list boxes that are the same but running of copied tables to achieve this.  It's fine for smaller datasets but with really large datasets it gets complicated and slows that application down due to the increased data in memory.

Any tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated!

An example:

Compare Males between 25-30 with Females 35+  ... obviously I cannot make these selections indepentently on the same list box so a solution to allow this possibility is required.

Thanks

Gareth

Hi,

I'm not sure if what I do is the best solution, but I usually create one data island for each selectable dimension, and then link them to the main fact table with a lot of set analysis. So, in your case I'd create only one fact table and two data islands, one for each gender.

Let's see if other experts have different approaches...

Fernando

Hi,

just found in my computer an interesting qvw (kinda old, don't remember where I got it...) with an example on using macros, set analysis and bookmarks to simulate alternate states. But it has nothing to do with my previous suggestion.

Hope this helps you
