Comparing Time periods

The time chart wizard is driving me crazy!!

I have the following data

Balance 200 asofdate 12/31/2010

Balance 210 asofdate 09/30/2010

I want to get 4 columns

Balance 9/30/2010 Balance 12/31/2010 Diff $ Diff%

210 200 10 5%

I know I can write 2 expressions using 9/30/2010 and 12/31/2010 as set criteria but when i add 3/3/2011

I would have to add another expression and so on - it looks like the time wizard is supposed to do this but I can't figure it out

It keeps telling me that my base expression is bad unless I use today() and even if I use today() i get no data

HELP
