Could someone explain the concept of key tables in Qlikview?

Hello

I wanted to understand the concept of key tables in Qlikview. I am involved in quite a bit of projects where I need to create key tables. I have had a look at some scripts and I understand the theory but I need to be able to understand it on a Qlikview development basis.
