Custom Directory Auth vs Header Auth

Hello

I am new to QlikView. I'm needing to assist with the deployment of a new cluster.

The client rightfully wishes to design a secure setup. We will be using version 12.2.

My question is, for authentication purposes, what is the difference between using a Custom Directory for authentication and authorization vs using Header authentication?

We are solving for provided access to an external client. The client will not use Active Directory. The desired setup would be:

      external FW  {DMZ}            Internal FW {Internal NETWORK}

client --> |        reverse proxy -->       | QVWS[Customer Directory] --> QV cluster[DSC Authorization] <-- QVWS[Active Directory]

The reverse proxy could provide basic authentication over SSL. However, could we not simply provide a pass to the a login page and use the Custom Directory for authentication and authorization?

Thanks

Aaron W
