Dates coming in from DB and displayed on Slider are out of order?

My "Slider" object is attached to a simple date field that looks normal to me, however, once I make the object the order of the dates from left to right go:

2011, 2011, 2010, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2012....

Obviously I want them in order.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

did You try :

properties -> sort -> Numeric value

?

I shouldn't have to do that. I've created several other documents and the dates load fine, QlikView seemed to understand (initially) that 2011 is before 2012. I did do the sort > numeric value but it seems to screw up my charts when you select a date range.
