I have a desktop in my home and a laptop at my office. I use the personal edition qlik view to both my pcs to run a couple of the same files. A month ago my desktop couldn't open my qlik files any more. And yesterday my laptop!!! I tried my many backup files but none of them can open. The strange is that while i can create a new QVW file and save it, then i cannot load it... The error message is the same. File xxxx failed to load.
Solutions like "Open data reports without data" or setting to 1 the "Application Rescue" and "Script Rescue" DO NOT work.
PLS help me i am in a desperate position. I cannot work.
Hi Makis,
This is because you are using the free version of QlikView. In QlikView Personal Edition, every document is saved with a user key that binds that file to the computer it is created on. QlikView Personal Edition can only open files created using that particular copy of QlikView. This means, with QlikView Personal Edition you cannot use your QlikView documents on different computers, you cannot share your QlikView documents with another unregistered user, or open a QlikView document from another user (exempted are documents specially prepared for personal use by Qlik). However, documents created in QlikView Personal Edition can be used with a licensed copy of QlikView Desktop and they can also be published on a QlikView Server.
Should you change computers, you will not be able to open your previously created documents with QlikView Personal Edition. In this case, you can choose to recover your files. Recovering files means a new user key is generated, assigned to the old document and used for all subsequent files, not only for that particular file. After recovering a file, you can no longer use it on the computer that you created it in. QlikView will accept 4 user key changes in a document. After that, you will get the error message “Key length has reached its maximum” and the document will not open any more. The only possibility is to recreate it from scratch.
Therefore, you should not recover QlikView documents that you did not create (from a forum or from a colleague, etc.). Doing so will use one of your remaining recovery attempts.
The only way to continue using your previous QlikView documents in QlikView would be to purchase a QlikView Local Client license.
Or you can convert all you QlikView apps into Qlik Sense apps using the QlikView Converter, and continue using your apps in Qlik Sense. Here is a guide for converting QlikView apps into Qlik Sense apps: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/April2018/Subsystems/Hub/Content/LoadData/manually-create-app-from...

Serina

Hi,
but I have the same issue and i am working only on my office laptop with licensed QlikView .any solution?
Thanks
Hi,
try to reload the license for your office machine and check;
in Qlikview Desktop, goto
file>open in server> <license_server>>connect
Thanks for your reply but still the same issue
Hi, Qolkaram,
Did you find solution to this issue?
Even document created by me on the same computer after being saved fail to load with Personal Edition.
Thank you,
Ilian
Nothing is working for me. I can open the file without data. However after a successful reload, I saved it and close the file. Then when I tried to open it again, it failed to load!
