Help me buy a computer to use Qlikview

Hi all,

Disclaimer: I'm not a computer programmer and don't have a strong grasp on computer specs and how they work.

I'm looking to buy a laptop and the only thing I'm a bit worried about is what specs I should look for to run Qlikview without issue. I am planning on running large data sets and storing my results (and the unused data sets) in a cloud.

Currently, I've been searching for something that has an i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD.

Am I on the right track? Is there anything else I should worry about?

The reason I'm asking here is because my friend is concerned about the performance needs of Qlikview, beyond their "recommended values".

Here is an example of what I've looked at buying: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/acer-acer-aspire-es-15-6-laptop-black-intel-pentium-n4200-1tb-hd...

Thanks in advance,

Kyle

Maybe consider getting a Acer with two memory slots with a maximum RAM value of 16gb.  Take a look at the specs on the following page ES1-523-44LU | Laptops - Tech Specs & Reviews - Acer .  The page shows maximum memory 16gb.  The current model you are looking at only shows a maximum of 8gb ES1-533-P205 | Laptops - Tech Specs & Reviews - Acer.  That way you can start with 6gb or 8gb and have the ability to upgrade to 16gb in the future.  Usually the laptop RAM is accessible from the bottom of the laptop with a couple screws, and can be easily upgraded.

Qlik can work anywhere for current release versions(I mean to say bit either 64 or 32). If you are okay then purchase 16GB RAM. That is good to have with that specifications

Thanks Anil, good to know. Do you know if anything less than 16GB RAM would be acceptable? Either 8GB or 12GB? These can cause a significant difference in price so I was hoping 8GB would be enough.

Thanks again.

That's how i've mentioned clearly. Qlik can work any where whether 2 GB RAM also fine. And the reason i am expending is your HDD is 1TB that is the case system may hangup. So then i would always prefer the good RAM Specification. Anyway, You can go with 8GB RAM also Upon you

Have you been able to load your dataset into a qvw or qvd yet?  Any idea how large your data set is in terms of HD space?

Hi Craig,

I've used Qlikview in the past but haven't had the chance to experiment recently because I'm stuck on a Chromebook (can't install on there), so I have not loaded it into a qvw yet.

Specifically, my datasets would come from pro sports websites, often dating back a decade or so. I don't know how much HD space that would translate to, but I can confirm that I will often resuse the same data in attempts to find different results, rather than collecting a growing collection of data.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Craig, that's a wonderful idea and I hadn't thought of it. I will do that.
