Hi , are we able to write the expression in "multi box".

We are able to write the expressions in the list box but not in the multibox but still 'Expression' option is available in the multi box properties dialog box.

Can any body help with this, how it works.

Hi,

How is the expression you can't use at multibox?

I'm using something like =ColumnNameA&' - '&ColumnNameB, and it works fine.

Please, post your expression here, so we can take a look.

Regards,

Ignez

The expression in a multi box is equivalent to the field expression in a list box (go to list box properties - general tab - last entry <expression> in the field drop down).

It is not the same as an expression you can define in expression tab of list box properties.

1)Load the data from any flat file, and reload the script then you will see the available fields---- do not add any fields to the list boxes and select the box button.

2) Now go to the sheet and press the right click and select the multibox -------> There you can see the two boxes 1) Available fields and 2)Fields displayed in the multibox.

3)Add Few Fields to the Foelds displayed in the multi box section.

4) Between those both the boxes you can see the expression button , Use that option and try to assign some expression to the Multi box.

Ex: Count the Number of Emplyoees in one office (=Count(Empid)).

Rajesh

Hey hi,

As you told it should be equivalent to the list box but that expression is not getting assigned to the multi box.

Through list box it will work can you try from the Multi box and let me know.

No, that's not what I was trying to say.

The thing called '<expression>' in field list of a list box or 'expression > ' is like a calculated dimension, not like an expression in expression tab of a list box or chart.

If you want to use an aggregation function like count(Empid), you will need to use an expression in expression tab of a list box or chart (not available in a multibox) and a list box field / dimension (like Office in your example) to group by.

You can create a list of your counts using advanced aggregation, though:

=aggr(count(Empid), Office)

But you won't see the office next to your count, then. Use a listbox or chart instead.
