Is it possible to throttle QV to prevent freezing?

Can I limit how much data/time QV will process before returning control to the user?

I have a large dataset with plenty of drill downs and charts. If the user selects the 'wrong' combination of filters Qlikview desktop will hang as there's simply too much data to display. I assume the same behaviour will be seen on the server too?

You can add calculation conditions to charts to prevent this kind of behaviour. See this discussion: http://community.qlik.com/message/623189#623189
