Pivot table clicking and selecting

Hi,

I have created a pivot table and one of the columns of this table is the column " Processname". In this column there are 8 values which I want to see with the results. But by clicking on one of these 8 items the table "rolls up" to 1 value (the selected item), and all other values will not be displayed. Is it possible (and what has to be done) to click on one of the items and all the other values are still displayed??

Thnx in advance

Maarten

hello ,

what is the objective to click on an item and still show all the values?

You can look at the set analysis function (using the help). Maybe that can help you.

In proprties you can click detach . Then in bookmarks you will have selection, in other table syou will have selections, but in your table you will see the everytyhing.

I don't know if you have this on your mind. Check this

Hi Magda,

by detaching the table, all values will be displayed as requested. Strange way to lock your table.... especially when new data is loaded into the application. In that case you have to go to your table and choose " Attach" (data is displayed) and then choose "Detach".... Strange workaround, but it works

As suggested above, you can use SET ANALYSIS to disregard selections made in specific fields, and still calculate a value.

Sum(
{$< [Processname] = {"*"}>}
Amount)

will for one give you a column of values that shows the sum of [Amount] for each Processname, regardless of which one you choose.

See attached .qvw for details.

Hi do you know if i can use this method to disregard user selection in my pivot table (see screenshot below).

Basically the only selection i want the user to use is the Month/Year list box. At the moment when a user clicks any particular field in the pivot it performs filtering (WHICH I DONT WANT).

I want the pivot to stay the same all the time but just use the Month/Year user list filter.

Any ideas?

Hi!

Yes, the above example can be used for this. However, the user selections made in the report will still apply to the rest of the document, just not the actual report.

Another idea that might be useful for you is to put a textbox on top of your pivot table, and make it transparent. If you do this, users can not make any selections in the pivot, but are instead clicking the textbox. Just make sure the size of your invisible textbox is the same as the size of your report.

hi, im still unsure how to include the original method into my table with multiple fields?

Howver your suggestion to add 'a transparent text box' was genious and did the trick.

Sometimes the simple things are better.

Many thanks

There is a "Read Only" option on charts that you could use to disable selections in it, that will however not disable selections made in other object, so using set analysis would be a way around that too.

I was looking for that option myself, but wasn't sure where to find it as "presentation" seldom provides all presenation answers. Just located the checkbox under "Chart title" in the General tab in object properties. That is of course the best way to go, nice find Johan.

However, I have to agree set analysis provides the best solution to prevent the user making selections in other objects affecting the view of your report.
