I'm using Ver 9.0 Personal Edition. I have created a qvw file using the Personal Edition. However, when opening the qvw file with the Personal Edition, I am prompted that a license key file is missing and the qvw file cannot be opened and I have to use the recovery process to open it (there appears to be some limit on how many times this can be done). (Sorry the prompt is no longer displayed so I don't have the exact message). I'm confused because I created the qvw file within the my Personal Edition and I am opening it within my Personal Edition. I have already performed the recovery a few times within the last few days and only have 2 occurences remaining. Any ideas on why this is occuring? I have spent considerable time creating multiple pages and charts and don't want to have to recreate this.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
I have more information about what we see causing excessive recovery requests for files. In this instance you are prompted for RECOVERY of a document. You accept the RECOVERY but then do not save the file. Opening the file again prompts you for a RECOVERY again. And you notice that your available recovery count has decreased. Whether you saved the file or not in the first attempt, you used a RECOVERY option.
So if you do recover a file please immediately SAVE the file as soon as the recovery finishes. This guarantees that the recovery is complete and you will not find yourself using recovery attempts unnecessarily
Thanks
What error message do you see when you try to open your document?
Have you tried to open a document from a different user?

I can't exactly tell you since the file is "corrupt" now, but it said something like "key missing or moved" in the first sentence.

No, except if you count the examples that come with the download (and they still work fine).
First message box in English is : "This file contains inconsistancies and cannot be opened by Personal Edition"
Thanks for the quick responses. These seem like different but related issues although liewil your file becoming corrupted is something we will investigate.
Sorry for the shortage of answers at this time. but your assistance is very helpful

I also get "This file contains inconsistancies and cannot be opened by Personal Edition" now (sorry, I shortened that to "corrupted"). I saw this as a secondary problem, the main problem being the "key missing or moved" one, triggering the recovery several times. Anyway, the "key missing or moved" one came first, several times, before the "inconsistencies" one.
Thanks for your help !
ok that is interesting liewil. thanks for the additional note
It is good to have a trial version, it is good also to have a community with a support service on QlikTech product but it would be better to have a trial product which works correctly and on which we can practice, it would be better to have some workaround and some corrections on this type of problem. This problem is know for 2 months and we still have no information.

You are right to pull us up on not providing more information on what is occuring with this issue. The information gathered from this thread has identified two possibilities only in terms of how and when this occurs
1. Issues with network adapters that cause the QV instance to believe that it has been moved. This can be replicated (see my post earlier on steps that highlight this) and the avoidance is if/when this occurs first do not save the current QlikView (exit without recovery) & check the status of your network adapters.
2. Recovering a file from a user other than yourself after you have yourself created documents on your personal instance. We ask people to remember that Personal Edition is only for use with your own documents.
What are we doing to relieve these problems? QlikView 9.0 SR1 is being released at the end of this month (September). We have
1. Cleaned up the error text to give more insight into what exactly is occuring behind each error message (not all of our existing messages convey the full issue/path forward)
2. Updated the instance checking that will relieve the issue with network adapters being switched on/off
3. Ensuring that more samples available in QlikCommunity are signed and available to all users without forcing a recovery attempt on your instance. This may have been a cause of some recovery instances in your particular use of QlikView.
Look for announcements of the availability of 9.0SR1 on QlikCommunity in the coming weeks
