QV Desktop vs Server vs Publisher

Desktop (thick client) - for power users - Analysis and ability to change existing reports and create new ones, right?

Server (thick or thin client) - For Administrators - Maintain Security and Performance. Can you elaborate what other activties are usually done on the server?

Publisher (thick or thin client) - What is the role of publisher and how is it different from the server.

From usage standpoint, what do regular users (read/analysis only) have in terms of SW installation. Do they need desktop license even though they just analyse the data in the view?

Thanks in advance

Server is used to open, process and serve the documents to the clients.

Regular users connect to the server using one of the available clients (thick/thin/mobile). Each use needs a license of some kind (either named CAL, or a session CAL, or a Usage CAL...)

cheers
