QVW file size remains same even after deleting sheets and data in it.

Hello there

I created a QVW file which used two very huge QVD file and two other small excel files. It had around four tabs(sheets) which was showing graphical charts ,aggregate tables ,lot of list boxes and google maps.Total size of the QVW files was 527 MB. so everytime i switch between each tabs my app was loading for some time. So i considered to split each sheet in to single QVW file. For that I created copy of original QVW file (i.e one with 4 sheets ) and deleted the rest of the tabs and saved that as separate file. After this I deleted all unwated Expression ,variables ,cyclic groups ,drill down groups along with one table which used one QVD file. But the resulting QVW file size was more or less same size(525 MB) . Is there any other way I could reduce the file size in this case ? Any help on this is really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Karthick,

How you removed the QVD, did you commented the script and then reload the file?  If you did this then the size of the Qlikview file would definitely reduce.

Also check the actual QVD size if it is 1 MB or so you don't find the difference.

Jagan.

Thanks Jagan for your reponse. I completely removed the code for the second QVD and reloaded the data and in the table viewer i am not seeing the table (QVD) which I have removed.

QVD which I have removed size is around 17 MB.

Hi,

I am not sure the size should definitely reduce atleast by some MB.  Also note Qlikview filesize depends on number of distinct values in a field.

Jagan.

Hello!

Sorry if this post has been resolved already, but you can also see what is going on with the QVW in two ways:

1, From Settings>Document Properties>Sheets

This will list the sheets and objects, including how much memory they take (good for RAM use analysis)

2, From Settings>Document Properties>Tables

This will show information about your loaded data tables and the number of records / distinct values per field.

I could be ok to have a large number of rows if the distinct values are low, but if every field value is unique this will soon bloat the app.
