Session CAL

Hi All,

Had a quick query regarding Session CAL's. A scenario wherein we have defined the list of users in the Section Access list, but what if a user whose credentials are not present in the section access for a particular dashboard tries to access the dashboard and at the same time there is a Free Session CAL available, will that user be granted access to the dashboard?

Yes. QV uses the named license if one is assiged to the user, then a document license if one is assigned to the user and document, and then, if it has not succeeded, it will assign a session license to the user.

For the sake of simplicity, I have ignored usage licenses and intranet licenses.

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for your reply. Can access to a dashboard be restricted if we are using Session CAL's. If so, how do we go about it? Any material on the same?

yes, use Active Directory user or group security, or add section access security to the dashboard. The license is only assigned when the user opens the document, and documents inaccessible due to AD or section access security will not appear on the portal and will not consume a license.
