Table / Calendar

Hello,

I have been asked to build an Enterprise Change Calendar.

Source data includes swim lanes, change activity, change date, ...

Each swim lane can have multiple change activities.

I need to show change activities by swim lane by weekly buckets.

Swim lanes will be shown as rows, while weekly buckets will be shown as cols.

Do I use a table chart to create this?

How do i create weekly buckets from change date - e.g., Jan 27 - Feb 2, Feb 3 - Feb 9, ... for about 50 weeks going forward.

Thanks,

Peter

Hello - I am providing more clarity and will greatly appreciate a response -

I have been asked to build an Enterprise Change Calendar.

Source data includes swim lanes (e.g., sales, marketing, finance, hr, tech, …), change activity (e.g., update sales target, finalize marketing budget, check hiring plan, etc.), change activity date, estimated hours for each activity.

Input record fields –

  • Swim lane
  • Change activity
  • Change activity date
  • Estimated hours

I need to show change activities by swim lane by weekly buckets (e.g., Jan 27 – Feb 2, Feb 3 – Feb 9, …) – buckets for upto six months ahead.

Swim lanes will be shown as rows, while weekly date buckets will be shown as cols.

Each cell (where a swim lane and a weekly bucket meet) will list the activities for that week for that swim lane

Each swim lane can have multiple change activities in any week.

A row on top will have the sum for estimated hours for all activities in that week.  .

Do I use a table or a pivot table to create this?  I have tried a pivot table and generic load – not quite there yet – most charts need a measure – and I am trying to show swim lanes as rows, weeks on top as columns, and activities in the middle.

Also, how do I create weekly buckets from the activity change date (e.g., from an activity date of Jan 28, 2020, I need to created buckets (Monday thru Sunday) such as Jan 27 - Feb 2, Feb 3 - Feb 9, ... for about 50 weeks going forward.  I don’t want to do this manually.

Many Thanks!

Peter
