Totals/Subtotals not showing on pivot table

I've got a pivot table with two dimension layers.

For some reason, I can't get the subtotals to show for each dimension value in the first layer.  I also can't get a grand total over all the dimensions at the bottom.  I get the grand total just fine when I change to a straight table.  How can I get these column totals to appear?

Presentation tab -> tick the Show partial sums check box
