Using Above( ) function and multiple dimensions/cycle groups

Hi Folks--

I found on the forum the tip to use the Above function to help trend differences over time. This works great when I just have one dimension in my chart. But, I'd really like multiple dimensions, and, ideally, the ability to cycle between a few, but as soon as I add the cycle or additional dimensions the calculation no longer works.

As an example, I want to show in a line chart, with fiscal year on the axis, expression of headcounts, with lines for gender (one line for M, one for F). It works when I've filtered down to one gender, but that rather defeats the purpose.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,

Amy Miller

Amy,

Conceptually, the difficulty is what you're applying the "above" function to. You want to tell QV to check the above year, but it doesn't know which dimension you mean. Try adding the "total" qualifier to the above function and see if that gives you the result you'd expect. For more details, look up the above function in the Help file.
