Hi all,
I'm new to Qlikview, and I have interest in the offline capabilities, but it seems like there maybe significant resources required by the local system as I assume a local data snapshot would need to be created. The question, is how much memory would I need to run my local snapshot? I have heard there is roughly a 1 to 10 compression ratio for data loaded into Qlikview's in-memory storage. I like to have offline analysis on my data, which is roughly 30 GB worth. Does this mean I would need 3 GB of RAM dedicated to my local Qlikview client?
I assume I don't need to have all the data loaded into RAM if I don't have the resources, but I assume I should have a certain portion of it loaded to be performant. Is there a rule of thumb for this? Thanks.
When you say offline, I understand that you have a QV Server where you have the application. The easiest way to find out how much RAM you need is to open it in the server with QV Desktop and see how much RAM it uses.
If you don't have sufficient RAM then you can reduce the data in File->Reduce Data or with Publisher.
Regards.
Hello,
the memory usage is depending on the data structure and what kind of analysis you have in the dashboard.
If you use complex data aggregation in the dashboard and not in the script QV uses much more memory than only the data itself.
Synthetic keys also need more memory.
Same with CPU power and waiting time when you alter a selection in your dashboard.

In general, you want enough RAM to hold the entire document. Qlikview does not perform well if it pages to virtual memory. That doesn't mean it won't be tolerable if paging occurs, you will just have to try it with your app to see if it's acceptable.
