show row number in straight table

Hi all,

I thought it was more straight forward or I am not really doing it right,  I want to create a dummy column and display the row number at design level.

Any idea? wouldn't the rowno()  be good enough?

did you find a solution to this issue? Is there an alternate method of numbering the rows so that sorting works?
