AQL is Associative Query Logic which is what the QlikView engine uses to query the data held in RAM.

It is patented by Qlik and the patent papers describe it in depth.  I do not claim the understand this patent description.

I think you will be better of with searching the Community for AQL, as this question has been asked several times before. For example see HIC's reply in AQL as reference.

In short, it is just an abbreviation for the script language used to write Qlik load scripts. The term AQL is not used anymore by Qlik. For any details on how the load script is constructed;
