Hi There
I have dowmloaded Qlikview 9 personal edition , i know the limitation is that you open other users files.
How would you do this now in 9 ? What edition would you require to open anyones files ?
Thank You
Sean,
In order to access files created by a licensed QlikView Desktop client (formerly Developer/Professional/Analyzer) in version 9, you have to have a licensed copy. Version 9 Personal Edition can only create and read files from that local instance of the software.
Please have a look at the reference manual at "C:\Program Files\QlikView\Documentation" (refer section - What's new in Qlikview 9).
Hi AMit
I must be missing something. I have already read this section.
It states that developer, Professional and Analyzer are obsolete as they are integrated in Personal Edition. However i still cannot open my old QV documents with personal edition. It then goes on about Server and Publisher.
So it does not really speak of other editions under whats new. So i am still not sure how to use my old QV documents ?
Thanx
basically what i am asking is should i be using QV Desktop 9 to still access all me previous QV docuemnts. Personal edition seems to be a start from scratch approach.
Hello.
As far as I've understood in the "What's new" section of QlikView 9, now there are two versions: Personal and Corporate (or called otherwise). The non-personal one is equivalent to the Developer edition of QlikView <9.
With personal edition you should be able to open your old files, but you can change your PC only 4 times since you need a key to open a file on each computer you have installed QlikView Personal. Something like Windows OEM activation key.
Hi,
To open other files you need to buy a license for v9 ....
Hi
If i try open my old files it says that they were created by a licenced QV user and since i am using Personal edition ic annot open this file.
Thanx
kja999, are you saying i need to licence personal edition or use a licened version of desktop edition ?
Thanx

Sean, QlikView Personal Edition will transform into a full QlikView "Desktop edition" (also called QlikView Developer) when you enter a valid license key in your Personal Edition.
It is not possible to open any QlikView file in Personal Edition, unless you created the file with your own QlikView Personal Edition instance. If you have files created in earlier versions (8.5 and earlier), you will not be able to open them in Personal Edition. So yes, "starting from scratch approach" makes a bit of sense. The only exception is the provided example files, they can be opened by Personal Edition as well.
