Best practice with QVDs

Hi Experts,

I would like to get the optimum solution in order to work with QVDs.

Actually, i am asking about the three layers of QVDs, so should i do transformation before store QVDs or i should extract the whole entities in data source into QVDs then transform those QVDs into new QVDs?
