Sum Total except Month

I am trying to show in a table for January 2017 the data from the start 2016 until now.

I have done this expression:

sum(total <Month> Sales)

however i am not having luck with it.

can you help me?

Can you elaborate a little the date and month fields and give us some sample with expected output?
