User-Chosen Start/End Years in Selection

I would like to let my user type in the start/end years to make their selection from our field (SelectionYear).  I.E I would like two boxes where users can enter 1980 in the first, and 1990 in the second, and have the selection in SelectionYear be rendered as 1980-1990.  How can I achieve this?
