In 1st it is not possible tell which format.

01/09/2015

We can not say is this 1st sept 2015 or 09-Jan-2015


In this case you consult with your data entry operator.



In 2nd case you can easily say it is (MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss TT) format
