What's new in Qlik Alerting May 2021

New features in May 2021 (Server Version 1.5.0)

  • Improved condition capability with increase in the number of conditions allowed from 5 to 10.
  • Improved mail server connectivity options to allow for less secure environment settings and allow connection with TLS versions less than 1.2. The install is secure by default and requires a configuration override to run in a less secure way.
  • Improved sorting and request formats to Qlik to ensure that formats are respected in filter value fields and conditions.

For detailed information about functionality and deployment, please refer to the Qlik Alerting online help.

Important: Versions of Qlik Alerting from June 2020 onwards require an updated Qlik Sense license, which includes the Qlik Alerting license attribute. Information on how to validate the Qlik Alerting attribute is available in the Qlik Alerting online help.

Resolved Defects

Qlik Alerting comes with fixes for the issues described below.

Qlik Alerting May 2021 Service Release 1

Dealing with unexpected allocation records in Qlik Sense

Jira issue ID: QIAB-372

Description: Due to a past issue with Qlik Sense the repository may contain allocation records related to deleted users. This causes the Qlik Alerting License check to fail.

Sending broadcast notifications and alerts to larger user groups

Jira issue ID: QIAB-373

Description: Groups are limited to 1000 from Qlik Alerting November 2020 and onwards but larger groups can exist during the upgrade process. These are not able to be maintained in the UI of Qlik Alerting. Whilst we do not recommend massive user groups we have provided a config option to allow management of these groups.

Socket Closed error in Qlik Connector log when failing to evaluate alert

Jira issue ID: QIAB-374

Description: In certain circumstances, when the Qlik Sense engine is under high load, a socket closed error can be seen in the Qlik Connector logs at the time that alerts do not trigger. A timeout setting was identified as the issue and has been changed to a more forgiving value to allow the engine to respond even when under heavier loads.

Mail server connection error messages to be shown in UI

Jira issue ID: QIAB-356

Description: When connecting to the mail server admins may see an error message with no details which forces them to look at the logs.

When saving an alert a double click may create two separate alerts.

Jira issue ID: QIAB-363

Description: When a user double clicks when saving an alert two requests are made and two distinct alerts are created. Only one alert should be created from this action.

Custom filter value fields returns an error when the value is blank (null as value).

Jira issue ID: QIAB-365

Description: There are use cases where users want to filter for empty values and the data model permits this by allowing null as a value. These filters cause an error in the create alert UI.

Shared alerts are not always able to be accepted by the recipient.

Jira issue ID: QIAB-354

Description: When the alert had a bookmark that is not public the sharing of the alert fails.

Data source test connection errors if clicked more than once and can error on first click at times.

Jira issue ID: QIAB-370

Description: The data source test connection button would at times return an error even when those same details had worked before.

Known issues and limitations

The following issues and limitations were identified at release time. The list is not comprehensive but includes all known major issues and limitations.

  • We are reviewing an issue where a large volume of applications and reload tasks causes timeouts with the connection to Qlik Sense. We recommend that Qlik Alerting be used in scenarios where app numbers are kept below 1000 for the short-term whilst we review the limits and changes necessary to support very large app volume sites. This does not affect large user volumes which are supported.
  • There are some instances where special characters in the virtual proxy prefix for Qlik Sense are not recognized. For example, the test data d/e/v for a virtual proxy prefix is not supported.
  • When an alert, which is linked to a Qlik Sense application, is shared with a user who does not have access to the application, the accept link in the email results in an error message. The record is created and displayed in the user’s list of alerts. However, it will not trigger because it cannot connect to the application with that user’s credentials.

Web user interface

  • The mobile app does not currently switch to landscape mode when the device is turned horizontally.
  • Datetime fields are presenting differently in different browsers. This is the default behavior of the browser, but it might be difficult for a user to understand. For example, the format is YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MI:SS in Safari.
  • In some browsers, the table is not refreshed when an alert is duplicated. You can refresh the browser and the new record with be shown with (copy) next to it.

Qlik Alerting Mobile app

  • There seem to be some scenarios where the deep links to Qlik Sense mobile (QSM) or to the browser (where QSM is not installed) do not work fully. This could for example, be caused by special characters in the dimension name.
  • The mobile app deep links to Qlik Sense Mobile do not work correctly on the iPad Pro iOS.
