Need help diagnosing cryptic error when trying to connect stitch to SQL Server instance

The connection attempt is failing for a certain on-prem SQL Server. 

The root error message in the stack is

 Connection to other SQL Servers in our on-prem have connected without issue.

The error happens in the "prelogin" step
