Attunity Fails with Java Updates Higher than 255

We received approval from Itamar to tell our customers that they can upgrade to a higher version of Java then the antiquated version of Java that Attunity ships, with which is Java 6. Java 6 had its last public release with update 41 in February of 2013! Over 7 years ago! One of our (Optim) customers, moved to Java 8 quite some time ago, and is now trying to move to the latest update of Java 8 which is at update numbers higher than 255.  This has caused Attunity to raise an exception.

For security reasons, our customers are required by their security teams to be at the latest level of all software that is on their systems. I can't imagine how many security updates there have been to Java in the last 7 years. I know that Oracle issues quarterly Critical Patch Updates (CPU) that include many fixes in each.

Not being able to handle an update number that is higher than 255 is a defect in the product that needs to be addressed. We need this addressed ASAP and need to know when it will be available as our customers are pressing us for a solution and availability date. Now while doing this, and actually in order to test it,  Java 8 will have to be used. So, also bundling Java 8 with Attunity would be the right thing to do. We had requested Attunity to bundle a higher version of Java years ago, but that request was declined.

Although we view this as a defect, and opened Case 02049289 for it, we were told that this needs to be evaluated by the Product Management team directly, and to open an Idea. So here it is.

Thanks,

Rick Spagna
