how to remove leading equal '=' sign from variable in Variable Input Extension?

Is there way to do it?

Otherwise when I use variable in chart, it does not work (a get single data point). 

I tried to copy the formula in the box without pressing FX, it does work when the formula is short, but it does not when it's long.
