Deploying a QVW on the web server.

Hi Everyone,

What are the necessary steps to be followed while deploying the QVW file on the server?

What are the dependancies?

What are the requirements?

May I need to purchase any new software, any server or license?

Can I be able to deply QVW file on a server provided by a third party hosting service, where all our websites resides?

What are the requirements while selecting third party hosting servers, particularly to deply the QVW file?

etc.

If anybody can share a step by step guide to do this, it would be a great help to me.

Thanks and Regards.

You would need to buy QV Server at minimum with couple of user CALs depending on how many users will access QlikView documents. You can install QV on a Windows server on hosted machine anywhere. QV comes with a portal page (like a website), which can be integratred to any other portal you may have, combining with other web sites.

Hope this helps.

To deploy on a QlikView Server you need the proper license and HW that can handle the load your QlikView users will cause. QlikView is dependant of running on a Windows platorm, and in general it is wise to allow QV Server to run on it's own server machine, to avoid resource conflicts with other servers/services (like for example SQL server).

The QlikView server provides users access to QVW files through a web access point, where the files can be openend and used through an Internet Explorer Plugin or AJAX client (HTML + JavaScript). See QV documentation on browser compatibility.

If you also want the server to perform scheduled reloads and redistributions of your documents, then you also need a QlikView Publisher license. The Publisher service itself can still run on the same physical machine as the QlikView Server.

In case your organisation already runs a Share Pint site you might want to check out the QlikView Webparts, which allows easy Share Point integration of QlikView document objects.

You can not really deploy the QlikView applications from a third party server, as you need some kind of runitme environment to execute the QlikView features. QVW can only be executed by QlikView clients, like for example desktop, IE Plugin or AJAX. QVWs can of course be distributes as files from a file server or via a webserver, but that would then require the users to have separate licensed desktop clients installed.

Thanks Rakesh, I want my QVW to be accessible through out the globe to all the web users, for example every one can access the QV demos on QW site. Please can you tell me about CAL?

QV comes with a portal page (like a website), which can be integratred to any other portal you may have, combining with other web sites.

This interests me a lot, can you explain it further? Or it will be great if you can provide me a link. Regards.

Hi Toni, Thanks for the good explaination. But still I have few doubts. It is clear that I'll need Windows platform on which I'll need to place the QlikView Server.

So,

1) I'll need to purchase QV Server

2) Then, I'll need to purchase License to deploy QVW on this server

You can not really deploy the QlikView applications from a third party server, as you need some kind of runitme environment to execute the QlikView features.

Yes, I agree with that.

3) But, If my third party hosting server is Windows platform, and if they allow me to do, then I'll need to install the QV server on it. right? And if they don't allow me, then what will be the option for me?

4) If I have share point site running, still do I need to purchase QV server and the license you have mentioned? It will be great if you can provide me a link about Webparts.

QVW can only be executed by QlikView clients, like for example desktop, IE Plugin or AJAX.

Please can you explain it bit more? Or any link would be appreciated. Regards.

Depending on your deployment choice, you will require different Licences and CALs. For example you require separate licenses for each QlikView Server and Publisher that you deploy, also WebParts requires a separate license. What type of CALs you need depends on your audience, and can be best answered by the Sales Represetatives as they are the once that can give you a price offering.

For a quick overview on CALs I recommend looking at the link below;

Windows is the only supported platform, so if your hosting service does not comply to a QlikView installation then you probabaly need to find a new hosting service.

I think you can find some valueable details on WebParts by briefing the manual. In general the WebParts enable the possibility to add QlikView obejct as part of your Share Point site. For this to work you still need have access to a QlikView server, since that is the provider of the object to the WebParts extension.

The main clients going forward are the desktop, IE Plugin and AJAX clients. The first two basically provides an identical user experience and features, since they utilize the same engine. The AJAX client how ever is a browser based solution that runs with HTML and JavaScript, which also have the natural restrictions of HTML and JavaScript. AJAX is also the client that enables application acces to be more platform independant, as it only requires a compabile browser like IE, Chrome, FireFox or Safari (making it iPad compatible).

In general I suggest looking at the different manuals and on the product pages on QlikView.com in order to get to know the products better. Also you could possibly get a test license to enable evaluation of a server deployment before you go live, so I would recommend getting in touch with your local sales representative for more details on your possibilties.
