Insert MS Word or Excel into Qlikview 11

Hi All,

Is there any options of inserting MS word file/Notepad in Qlikview 11 version.  I recollect referring somewhere that these features are included in Version 11.

Regards,

Raghav

Hi Raghav,

Notepad files are plain text files, so you should be able to load them using the "Table Files" button. Word documents cannot be read for the time being.

Dear Miguel,

thanks for your suggestion.  Can you please share an example qvw if possible.

Best Regards,

Raghav,

I can create a CSV file later on today and load it into a QVW file, but it does not make any sense since it's you who has to check that the "Table Files..." button in the Edit Script window does what you want, and how to use it.

So better create yourself a new file, create a dummy CSV file as much similar as possible to the actual data you will have to deal with, and use those wizards. By the way, creating a CSV file with notepad is as easy as opening notepad, writing the fields and values using the separator you want, and save it. Notepad files, as I mentioned above, are just plain text files regardless their extension (TXT, CSV, etc).

Regards.

Hi Miguel,

Thanks for your reply,

I might not be clear on my earlier question.  I was trying ask a possiblity of inserting external files into Qlikview application for users to make notes, comments etc so that Qv application is interactive.

I know there is a way to create annotation at the chart level, was checking if there is a possiblity of inserting a notepad at document level for making notes by users.

Thanks and Regards,

Raghav

Ok Raghav,

You can add a custom object, but it must exist and be created with OCX prior to add it (or "attach" it) in QlikView. Or use inputfields in a table and using macros store that table into a plain text file.

We have built an extension object that allows you to have a "chat feed" at document level.

The extension allows the user to write a note, upon saving it gets pushed down into a SQL database.

Then we just read the notes from the databas in the same and/or different extension.

I'll see if I can't dig that one up, clean it up a bit and share it.

I seem to re-call that a QlikView Partner has built a solution around this aswell, can't remember their name though.

A very easy solution to your problem would be to create a Google Docs document/office 365/some WebDav thingie and embed that document as an iFrame in your QV app with the built in extension object called web page viewer.

You would need to solve authentication but for a small number of users that should not be a problem.

Hi Alexander,

I have source in CSV file format  loaded into dashboard, where I have number of dimensions and huge information.

BUT here I want only 'Username', 'Area', 'ID', 'Comments' dimensions should appear in the word document/Excel file by using "Button Object" and this information should appear based on the User selections, for example when User 'X' wants to click on the Button Object in the dashboard, he should see a word document/excel file to be open with 'Username' = X, 'Area' =TX', 'ID'=001, and  'Comments' = section should be blank

dimensions and then that user 'X' will be able add his comments in the 'Comments' dimension and close it. Now these 4 dimensions should save in another excel file.

Above I have seen some related information was shared previously,  so I am posting this to you please advise if this is possible by creating a button object in the dashboard.

Thanks,

Nihal
