Hey,
WHat is the difference between Straight table and Table box and Pivot table ??
Please help.
Thanks.
hi
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STRAIGHT AND PIVOT TABLE
PIVOT TABLE | STRAIGHT TABLE
ASCENDING/DESCENDING CHANGE OPTION ON COLUMNS | NO | YES |
SEARCHING/DROPDOWN SELECT ON COLUMN | YES | YES |
COLAPSE/EXPAND COLUMN | YES | NO |
GROUPING | YES | NO |
DRAG AND DROP COLUMN | YES | YES |
SUB TOTAL | YES | NO |
TOTAL | YES | YES |
DRAG EXPRESSION | NO | YES |
HIDE COLUMN OPTION PERMANENTLY BUT INTERNALLY WORK | NO | YES |
TOTAL MODE (NO TOTAL, EXPRESSION TOTAL, SUM OF ROWS) OPTION ENABLE | NO | YES |
A pivot table is better at grouping: you can easily see which group a specific row belongs to, and a group can have a subtotal. You can also display a pivot table like a cross table (one or several horizontal dimensions). But when you sort a pivot table, you have to sort it first according to the first dimension, then according to the next, etc. You cannot sort it any way you want.
A straight table is better at sorting than a pivot table: you can sort it according to any column. But it is not so good at grouping. Subtotals are not possible, for instance. |
In table box we can add the dimensions but you can't create an expression
eg: sum(sales) is not possible
pivot table is better grouping
you can have a look at the below link for more detail
Straight table: it has grand total, hiding column, accumulation, dimension limits tab, mini chart, need atleast one expression.
Pivot table: it has grand total and sub total,(accumulation, hiding column, mini chart, dimension limits tab are not available), need atleast one expression
Table box: it has only fields not expressions
Hi,
TableBox:
You do not have expressions, just specify the dimensions you required.
Grouping is not possible.
Straight Table:
You have to write one or more expressions.
Grouping is not possible.
Sub totals is not possible.
Expression Total and Sum of rows mode is available for expression.
Better performance.
Pivoting of dimension is not possible.
COLAPSE/EXPAND column is not possible.
Pivot Table:
You have to write one or more expressions.
Grouping is possible.
Sub totals is possible.
Expression Total mode is available for expression.
Poor performance when compared to Straight table.
Pivoting of dimension is possible.
COLAPSE/EXPAND column is possible.
Check this link : Re: Pivot Table vs Straight Table (Performance)
Hope this helps you.

Jagan.
Straight Table:
Its a tabular form of viewing your dimensions .
No Goupings are possible
NO Sub Totals or Partial Sums
Scope of Redundant Dat-- difficult for use with Large Volumes
Pivot Table:
Groupings Possible
By Using Expand/Collapse you can interact with your data
Partial Sums make you more insight of the Data
We have No Dimension Limits tab for Pivoting.

Chaitanya
A Straight table is like a Standard Table, with Row Columns. You have dimensions and expressions.
A Pivot Table - Its similar to excel pivot table, where you can do data grouping, collapsing & expanding columns, based on dimensions
A Table Box - Its a table to list various dimensions and their existing combinations. It does not include an Expression though.
Hey,
But i can expand and collapse column in straight table. Even grouping is also possible by Edit Grouping option in straight table. And where this sub total is used ??
Please help.
Thanks.

Hi Nikhil,
If you are practicing, have you created both the tables ? Straight and Pivot ?
Which book or tutorial are you referring, I can guide you from there, it will be easy for you to understand.
Regards
Pankaj
Hi Nikhil,
There is a Qlikview Tutorial available on Qlikview Website - http://www.qlik.com/us/services/training/free-training. You can download this, and this has a PDF. Chapter - 6, page 77 of the PDF, talks in details about Straight and Pivot Tables. You can read and practice as well, that the best way to understand.
You will understand the differences as well.

Pankaj
