World Cup Predictions - Artificial Intelligence & Human Intelligence

    Hi everyone,

Steve Palmer here, former Premier League player, current Qlik devotee and contributor to the Choose your Champion podcast!

Well, when the good people at Qlik asked if i would take part in podcast and if you'll excuse the pun, 'Champion' the Human Intelligence potential in predicting outcomes at the FIFA World Cup, i was a little apprehensive! I think I've a good base of knowledge regarding likely outcomes in the Premier League and perhaps the UEFA Champions League but scaling this to 48 countries appeared a bit of a stretch!

However, regardless of the AI and HI outcomes, it has revolutionised my watching and interest in the competition...instead of a focus every few days with the England National Team, there is a continual interest in each result and how is my score getting on in comparison to Qlik Predict, Colleagues and most importantly my nieces who made choices on purely aesthetic grounds!

I've been a Qlik 'person' for 15 years, starting with Qlik View used in Player Recruitment and then as a Player Development register, before the transition to Qlik Sense and a multitude of business and performance applications within my role as Head of Data Solutions at The Premier League. The structure of the Associative engine, the permission options with Section Access as well as the governed architecture together with, what i describe as the control of high level programming language with the flexibility of working with SQL operations to build data models.. In my view, unmatched in the world and the most powerful data management platform - but then again, you already knew that!

As someone who was taught to code in Pascal and then base C, I'm old school in engineering my scripts, a series of logical Extract & Transform subroutines called from a main() control routine. I've baulked against the wizards, they are amazingly clever but i like to be in control of my code and knowing exactly what is associated with what!

So, what did i think about Qlik Predict and the use of AI in predicting the results of football matches. The advent of AI is everywhere, often mis-termed in my view, but a phenomenon that isn't going away! Quadie and the Qlik team have done an amazing job in showcasing the power of the Qlik suite of functions that underpin both the 'brains' of the application and the UI.

As a person understanding the complexities of the beautiful game, i hope that these are too much for Qlik Predict! The uncertainty of VAR and refereeing decisions together with the under dogs having a stellar day have already thrown up many of the < 10% outlier results. The Group Stages gave a 3 game buffer for the statistics to even themselves out but as we are now in the 'business end' of the Knockout Phase, the effects beyond the models come into crucial play. For example England playing Mexico at altitude in the Azteca Stadium, Mexico with a largely partisan Mexican crowd is probably not reflected in a model derived from the past performance, players and teams!

My view has always been that AI is a fantastic creative tool as well as providing an ability to analyse vast amounts of data to provide insights and ideas but, and crucially but, needs a human to sense check the results. I use Qlik Predict AI in my day job to great effect but i really hope that it doesn't beat me in this competition. My nieces, well that another story!

Have fun, keep Qlik'ing and enjoy the World Cup shocks and surprises!

Knockouts Are Here. How Is Your Bracket Holding Up?

The group stage delivered its share of shocks, and the Round of 32 is already picking up where it left off.

Paraguay knocked Germany out on penalties, prompting a national holiday back home in Asunción. Morocco sent the Netherlands packing, continuing a run of tournament heartbreak for the Dutch and reminding everyone that the Atlas Lions do not scare easily on this stage. Cape Verde, a nation of half a million playing in their first ever World Cup, held Spain to a draw and marched into the Round of 32 unbeaten. Uruguay, a pre-tournament favorite, is already home. And Mexico's 2-0 win over Ecuador gave El Tri their first knockout stage victory since '86.

If your bracket took a few hits, you have plenty of company. So did most of the submissions.

    Where does Qlik Predict stand?

Qlik Predict came through the groups with 69 points and racked up 8 points from the Round of 32. It is still leaning on the European contenders that survived the chaos to go the distance. Its current call for the final: Spain vs England, with the trophy going to Spain. A confident pick given how the Round of 32 is unfolding, but that is what makes this fun to watch!

    Your turn:

The knockouts are where brackets are won or lost. Two ways to jump in:

    1. Already have a bracket? Head back into the app, log in, compare your picks against Qlik Predict's, and adjust anything that has not kicked off yet.

    2. Haven't built one yet? There is still time. Start fresh from the current state of the tournament and see how far you can climb the leaderboard.

Who do you have going all the way to the Final?

    Hello all,

We are using QlikSense Enterprise Nov 2023 for data extraction and report development. When opening QMC or hub outside the server, it is showing as not secure as shown in the attachment. However, when opening them inside the server, it is fine. There is no warning or pop up. The certificates are already in place but it is still showing as not secure. Can anyone help me how we can move forward to resolve this issue.

    Hi,

I’m currently working on a Qlik Sense Private Cloud migration from an on-premises environment. Based on Qlik documentation and community guidance, I have successfully completed the migration, and it is working fine.

    However, I have a concern:

My current on-prem UAT and Production environments are not in sync, as business users have made additional changes (e.g., security rules) directly in the Production environment.

So far, I have migrated from the on-prem UAT environment to the Private Cloud. However, users are expecting the Private Cloud Test environment to be an exact replica of the on-prem Production environment.

    Question:
Is it possible to migrate or replicate the on-prem Production environment directly to the Private Cloud Test environment, including all configurations (such as security rules, streams, and apps)?

Note: My On-prem Servername and Private Cloud Server Name is different

Mikael is a familiar face in the Qlik Community for those who are on it often, regularly contributing through insightful questions and helpful responses to other members. He is based in Halle, near Brussels, Belgium, and he has been a part of the community for over ten years now.

As a Business Intelligence Coordinator at AZ Sint-Maria Halle, a local hospital, Mikael’s work combines data and real-world decision making. His role centers around turning operational, clinical, and financial data into meaningful insights, on dashboards in Qlik, so that his colleagues can better understand activity, performance, and processes across the hospital. He enjoys “digital transformation projects, process improvement, and finding practical ways to make complex data easier for non-technical audiences.”

Mikael’s journey with Qlik began during his time at Agilos, a Belgian company that specialized in business intelligence and data analytics. He expressed how “that experience gave me a strong foundation in Qlik and helped shape the way I look at data: not just as reports or numbers, but as practical tools that support better decisions.”

He values the Qlik Community because of the quality of learning that it offers. It is a place to find innovative ideas, learn from real problems that others are solving (sometimes problems he did not even know he had yet), and discover approaches he may not have considered on his own. Staying connected also helps him keep up with the latest Qlik news, product updates, and tips from people using Qlik in different environments. Mikael does not only stay up to date on the platform, but he contributes to discussions and offers his insights.

Outside of work, Mikael enjoys spending time with his family, walking his dog, and playing padel. All these things help him “disconnect, stay active, and recharge.”

Mikael, thank you for your continued contribution and engagement in the Qlik Community. Please join us in celebrating Mikael as our July 2026 Featured Member and leave a comment below!

    Hello,

This is my second try with this issue (I guess I wasn't clear enough in the previous one)

I've got a very simple app with one table and a section access than manages "Tasks" assigned to users.

A user must have access to any "Tasks" of one or several "categorys".

My script is just like this:

    Section Access;

    UserRestrictions:
    LOAD * INLINE [
         ACCESS, USER.EMAIL, CATEGORY
        'ADMIN', 'user1@yourdomain.com', A
        'ADMIN', 'user1@yourdomain.com', B
        'USER', 'user2@yourdomain.com', C
    ];

    Section Application;

    MainTable:
    LOAD * INLINE [
    TaskId, Task, CATEGORY
        1, Task 1, A
        2, Task 2, A
        3, Task 3, B
        4, Task 4, B
        7, Task 5, C
    ];

In the app there's just one table and two buttons to:

    • Full Reload. It will reload the app using the "reload" action of the button
    • Automation Reload. It will run an automation that reloads the app

    PedroC_0-1783071651934.png

If I select a TaskId and click on the "Full Reload" button the app will reload and all selections will be cleared, but if I use the "Automation Reload" then the app will be reloaded and the selections will be kept.

If I remove the Section Access of the app the "Full Reload" button won't clear selections so it's just an issue related with Section Access.

This app needs to be reloaded on demand many times a day and it might occasionaly reach the limit of 48 daily reloads of the standard suscription or even 192 of premium/enterprise, so "Automated" reloads are not a solution.

    PedroC_1-1783072235097.png

Does anybody knows a workaround for this issue.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there,

I'm trying to calculate an a !verage per month (= the sum of ... divided by number of months available) but it doesn't work. Anyone any suggestions what I'm doing wrong?

If (in a text box) I apply the calculation "count(distinct(Month))" it gives me the number "2" which is correct since there are only two months of data available. However, applying the same expression in a pivot table doesn't work.

Much appreciated if someone can guide me into the right direction.

    Cheers!

In Data Manager, I selected all sheets from the input file i need to load

However, in Data Load Editor (script), I am forced to specify each sheet name like:

    Sheet name is [2023]
    Sheet nameis [2024]

    My question is:
Why does Data Manager support automatic sheet detection, but script does not?

Is there any way in script to load all sheets from an Excel file without manually specifying sheet names?

Any explanation or best practice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
