Qlik Explorer for Developers is here!

We have now introduced a stand-alone version of Qlik Analytics for Visual Studio, called Qlik Explorer for Developers, that does not require Visual Studio to run. The tool is used for exploring Qlik Sense, help you to build Mashups and retrieve the object IDs. You can connect to Qlik Sense and drag and drop code snippets and IDs into whichever IDE you are using to build mashups or similar solutions.

To get a better overview of the tool, we recommend you to look at a YouTube video showing how to use the Qlik Analytics for Visual Studio which is the Visual Studio plugin version of the tool. The stand-alone tool is not installed inside any IDE, besides that the functionality is the exact same as the plugin.

    Getting Connected

You can connect to any Qlik Sense server or desktop from version 2.2. Try the tool out using a desktop by connecting to localhost:4848 or connect to playground using https://playground.qlik.com/ (use Anonymous mode). Playground is also available as a default server in the connection drop-down inside the tool.

    Templates

With this version we also introduce the concept of templates. A template is a set of code snippets which are bound to different nodes in Qlik Sense. A node is for instance a Qlik Sense application, a sheet or an object. The tool comes with a set of pre-installed templates, but the real power with the templates is that it is possible to create your own templates. You can then define the snippets in the exact way you prefer. If you for instance use Bootstrap and want your html tags to always be in a certain way, you can define this in a new template.

More information about templates in Qlik Help site:

    http://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense-developer/3.1/Subsystems/Plugins/Content/GettingStarted/Templates.htm

We have currently focused on the Web with the pre-installed templates, but there is nothing stopping you to create your own template for building e.g. a .NET or Java application. If you have done a nice template that you want to share with the World, please do! The sky is the limit!

Qlik Explorer for Developers is fully functional and have the same functionality as the Visual Studio plugin, it is, however, released as a technical preview and we do not officially support it through our support channels. The tool is free for you to use and share. You can also provide feedback and bugs through the tool but we do not make any promises to fix any improvements or bugs. Feature or improvement suggestions are highly appreciated.

We really hope you find the tool useful and that you will enjoy using it.
